Dental implants are an integral part of any smile makeover. Implants are actually more dependable than teeth.
- Implants do not decay.
- Implants do not erode.
- Implants do not get gum disease.
- Implants do not break.
Dental implants are used to replace missing teeth or to substitute for teeth whose extreme dental, periodontal, endodontic, or restorative problems may lead to a questionable probability of treatment success.
Implants have three parts:
- the root part that is below the gumline
- the crown part that is above the gumline
- the attachment that joins these two segments
Dr DeMello will refer you to an oral maxilofacial surgeon or periodontist to painlessly insert the root portion and attachment into the bone. Dr. DeMello has established a relationship with several specialists based on much experience through many previous cases and he will discuss this with you at your appointment.
Aftrer placement, the root part of the implant heals rapidly but the bone around it must be allowed to stabilize for about four months. After bone healing takes place, the specialist and Dr. DeMello coordinate their appointments so that immediately after the implantologist places the attachment you can drive right to Dr. DeMello’s office for creation and insertion of the final permanent crown using the CEREC process.
No need for uncomfortable temporary restorations that frequently come loose and no second visits. Once bone healing has taken place, you will get your new crown on the same day!
implants and full dentures
Implants can also be used to stabilize an existing loose lower denture. To do this two implants are placed in the region where the natural eye teeth used to be. The existing denture is then fitted with attachments to make the denture snap and lock onto the implants.
After dental implants are fitted to your denture, you will be able to laugh, cough, and bite as hard as you like on any type of food with confidence and without fear of your denture coming loose.
